We partnered with the NYC Civic Engagement Commission to host a participatory budgeting session at The Xperience Café, a Black-owned restaurant in Canarsie. Residents came together to learn how city funds are allocated and shared bold ideas to address critical community needs, including youth mental health, food access, and job training.

Participants explored key budget concepts—like the difference between capital and expense budgets—and proposed innovative projects to make Canarsie stronger and more connected. This event showcased the power of grassroots advocacy in action. When we listen to our community, change happens.

A huge thank you to The Xperience Café and the Civic Engagement Commission for making this event possible.
