In December 2021, in the aftermath of the tragic loss of young Jamere Jones to gun violence, we launched a crucial campaign. Our aim: to bring a fully funded Cure Violence site to Bay View Houses in Canarsie. Cure Violence programs have proven to be exceptionally effective, showing a reduction of up to 40% in shootings within their operational areas, according to City Data. Despite the demonstrated success of these initiatives, our community in Canarsie has been deprived of such vital resources for years. Through our efforts, we aspire to fill this gap, combat gun violence, and ensure a safer, more secure neighborhood for our families and our future generations.
